Dan Reckard is a Los Angeles based pianist, saxophonist and composer. He is rooted in the jazz of Lester Young, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, but is comfortable in many styles of music. Dan tours with rock band Jamestown Revival, serves as music director for jazz singer Samantha Sidley, leads the Brazilian music group Bossa Zuzu, and plays with many musical projects in L.A. He has played and toured with Crystal Bowersox, Crash, Raquel Rodriguez, the Makers, and Michael Cartwright. Dan served as Jazz Director of the Interlochen Arts Academy from January to May 2015. He has also played with jazz saxophone great James Moody, Brazilian pop icon Gerônimo Santana, and South African legend Lorraine Klaasen.
Bossa Zuzu is a unique group that plays original Brazilian music. Bossa Zuzu has toured in Japan and Brazil as well as the United States. Their album Under Leaves Under Sky was produced by Peter Erskine and was released to great critical acclaim in March 2014. It has been featured on KCRW’s Rhythm Planet, KPFK’s Global Village, and many other radio stations across the US and Japan.
